August 2024 Newsletter

It's that time of year again!

The crowd at Oldenburg Freudenfest this past month.

Hey folks,

Happy August! Or as we like to call it in Ohio: The start of Oktoberfest season. Why are they in August? I believe it’s because of the unpredictability of Ohio weather. If you’ve never experienced it, consider yourself marked safe. Safe from snow in the morning, then fog, rain, and hot in the evening. All in one day. Ohio weather is like living with teenagers :)

We are happy to announce that we placed second in the 2024 Best of Butler County awards. Thanks for your support and votes. We are so excited to get the music going and the gemütlichkeit a’flowing!

We open the month with our most favorite community party. (Sorry–not open to the public). These folks are SO MUCH FUN! They outdo themselves each year. They are also the first to get to hear our new music. It’s a great way for me to see if the ideas in my head really work.

Then we’re headed across the river to beautiful Maysville, Kentucky, for their Oktoberfest.  One of the best parts is getting to stay the night at the historical Lee Inn. If you’ve never been to Maysville, put it on your bucket list.

From Kentucky we head north to the historic district for the German Picnic. This one is super fun and I particularly like the fact that we provide music for the German Mass on Sunday morning. We do it all, folks!

Fun Fact: The band used to play for the monthly dances and such at the Liederkranz.  Franz, Ed, and Angie always get a kick out of seeing the stage where the band would be. Also, this is the closest gig for our Dayton members: Brian, 1B, and Rich.

Our local Klaberheads–make sure you have August 16 on your calendar. We will be at the annual Seven Mile Oktoberfest. Things we appreciate about this fest: they have a port-o-let just a few feet away from the tent for only the volunteer workers and us and they graciously let us go straight to the food and serve us. We also love being able to see some of our more tenured Klaberheads, as this Fest is very user-friendly as far as parking and accessibility.

Back to Indiana we go for the Dekatur Germanfest. I’m always amazed at how many kids show up on the dance floor. But it's a great way to teach dances like the chicken dance and das Fliegerlied. One of our favorite parts of this fest was watching the kids to a “mock” stein hoist contest. We 100% agree, teach them while they’re young.

Another local favorite: Germania Oktoberfest. The grounds are beautiful, the bartenders are excellent, and the vibe is real. A Saturday night at Germania is a must-do. I love having the opportunity to see friends from high school, college, and even former colleagues! I have so many fun memories from Germania. This is one of the locations where we filmed our video “Oktoberfest Brings Out the Wurst” and where we filmed our video for the “World News Polka.” The horn section particularly likes to play on the playground.

The very last day in August we head to Cleveland for the Cleveland Oktoberfest. We’ll be there all Labor Day weekend.

So…lot’s of opportunities to come get Klabered! Don’t forget about the new merch: 2024 EIO hat pin, stickers, and Oktoberfest jewelry. And coming very soon, the new “Live at Minster CD.”

We can’t wait to see you in person, and if you’re lucky, maybe we’ll throw a guitar pick your way.

Pröst,

Bandmember spotlight

Angie D'Ercole plays the accordion and keyboards for the Klaberheads. She has been in the band on and off since she was only sixteen years old.

Her favorite song is "We Are Family," and her favorite drink is a White Russian (or a shot of Black Haus).

Angie has a great eye for design and has been the band's graphic designer for years.

When she's not performing with the Klaberheads or at work, she can be found redecorating her house or creating designs for band leader, Erika.
